How fun does this sound?
Operating the K4TCG HQ station(s) during the
Tennessee QSO Party on Sunday, 7 September 2008
from here in Wilson County.
The event lasts nine hours, from 1800z to 0300z,
and stations all over the US, Canada and some
world-wide will be trying to work as many TN
stations on as many band/modes as possible the
entire time. Participants earn 100 bonus points
for each valid QSO with the K4TCG HQ station. In
other words, everybody wants to log K4TCG many
times.
Our club (and friends/guests/etc.) might get to
operate the K4TCG HQ station if we can put all
bands on the air and use SSB, CW and some digital
(RTTY/PSK31/etc.) for the duration of the contest.
We can do this from more than one location as long
as all stations are within Wilson County, and as
long as we don't have two stations on the same
band/mode at the same time (i.e. two stations on
20M SSB at once).
To pull it off, I would think we'd need at least
four 100W radios on the air for the whole nine hours.
More would be better if propagation is good on the
upper bands. A dedicated VHF/UHF station would also
be a VERY nice addition since that is the weekend of
the ARRL VHF QSO Party and we can count those QSOs
for the TN QSO Party as long as we exchange the
required information. Ideally, we'd put dedicated
stations on both 40M and 20M from the start, and
dedicated stations on both 80M CW and 80M PH/160M
in the late afternoon/evening when those bands prove
useful. If propagation is good on the upper bands
that day, we would put stations on both 10M and 15M
while they're hot, then if/when it drops off, let one
station monitor both and move the other to a needed
band/mode.
I can host one station and have a guest operate a
second radio from here if we can come up with a
100W HF Radio, P/S and mic/key/etc. to use.
Who among us is interested in pursuing this? I
need to hear from enough of you in the next week
or two to let TCG know we are willing and able.
