Do any of you know if Wilson County is collecting Christmas trees for
recycling/mulching? Where?

Subject: [-WC4AR-] Greetings from N4MAW, 2008 President WARC

All WARC Members,

Good afternoon all. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself and say that I look forward to serving as the club President this
year. I know it will take some work, be challenging, but also could be a
fun and enlightening experience. I am still fairly new to the amateur radio
hobby. I was first licensed July 25, 2006 as KI4QGS. I then changed my
call sign to N4MAW - the original one was giving me fits having to say it
two or three times so I went with something a little less of a mouthful. I
became a General in April of 2007 and have been enjoying the hobby quite a
bit when time allows. I have a lot to learn about the hobby and hope that
through working with all of you, programs at our meetings, and through other
methods, I will continue to learn and grow my skills. I am also the Net
control Operator for the Wilson ARC/ARES Net on the third Thursday of the
month and would like to invite each of you to check in to tour net each week
whenever possible.

I would like to invite each of you to contact me with any ideas you have,
program suggestions, or activities you would like to see the club provide.
I believe that your input is vital to making the club the best it can be as
well as to growing our membership. I hope that we can have programs that
will be educational and useful to potential hams, new hams, and the more
experienced hams as well. In order to accomplish this though, I need your
help. We need about three members who would be willing to help identify
possible topics for programs. These people would be our Education and
Program Committee. This committee's main responsibility would be to help
identify and coordinate programs educational in nature or of interest to the
amateur radio community or to the general public that would help spark
interest in the hobby.

Another need we have is for three members to help plan our 2008 Field Day
event. I hope that we can make the 2008 Field Day the best the Wilson
Amateur Radio Club has ever had. That is why am asking for help in planning
this year's event. This year Field Day will be on June 28 and 29. For this
to be a great event for the club, we need to get started planning and
securing resources and materials as soon as possible. I would like to begin
having discussions regarding field day no later than our March Meeting.
That would give us three good months to prepare and get all the details and
logistics worked out.

If anyone has a particular area of expertise (such as rig construction,
antennas building, DX operations, NTS Traffic Handling, etc.) that they
would be willing to share with the club I would love to talk with you about
speaking at one of our meetings. There are vast amounts of knowledge,
experience, and just good ol' fun within our membership and I believe it
would be a great way to help those of us, like myself, who are still very
much "wet behind the ears" in the hobby to learn and expand our capabilities
in Amateur Radio. The Executive Committee is also looking at some other
program and event possibilities for this year to help get the club more
visibility and hopefully spark interest in the hobby. Again, please feel
free to contact me with any suggestions, ideas, or areas of concern
regarding the club. I welcome your input and honestly..I need your input as
this is your club and I want to help make it the best that it can be in
2008.
