Hi guys & gals,

Well the Tennessee QSO Party was Sunday and it looks like it was a real success.
   Lots of logs are being submitted and I heard lots of new hams on during the
event.

The Tennessee QSO Party is put on by the Tennessee Contest Group of which I am a
member.  Right now the logs are being gathered and scores tallied.  This will go
on until 12 October, then shortly thereafter the winners will be announced.
This year we're hoping to award plaques to each of the category winners.  There
are seven major categories, meaning we need sponsors for seven plaques.

Would the members of Wilson ARC be willing to sponsor a major category plaque
for the Tennessee QSO Party?  The cost is estimated to be $60 per plaque.  The
club's name would appear on the TNQP website as a major category sponsor, and
might even be printed on the plaque... I'm not sure.  Is this something you guys
and gals might want to do?  If so, speak up and let me know.  The award winners
will be announced in about a month, so time is short.  Of course I'm for it.

Do any of you know anyone in or near Wilson County who has a Glen
Martin Hazer? I'm trying to fabricate a bracket for someone else to
attach to a Hazer, and I'd like to see one up close to take some
measurements if possible.

Subject: [-WC4AR-] For Sale/Trade: Self Supporting Tower

Greetings,

I have a Tri-Ex W-67 self supporting crank-up tower available. This
tower is a refurbishing project in progress; the top section and
mounting bracket are being repaired after an incident some twenty
years ago. Once that is complete, the tower will require a new motor
and likely new control wiring in order to make it functional. I have
a copy of the original manual, which includes details the
construction of the concrete base.

I have no interest in installing this tower on my property. I'd be
happy to see it put to use by someone who wants/needs it. The new
owner may want to have the entire tower stripped and galvanized,
(which I can help with) or use it as is, which is certainly reasonable.

Since I have money and time invested in this project, and I can offer
options to the new owner (galvanizing, transportation, installation
assistance) the price isn't fixed. The baseline is $800 after the top
section and mounting bracket are done. Trades for other equipment
will be considered, no tube type gear. Please contact me directly, as
I don't read all the traffic on the list.

Motorola Inc. (MOT), the Schaumburg, Ill., communications-equipment giant, said
on Monday that it bid $108 million for 80% of Japan's Vertex Standard Co., a
provider of two-way-radio-communications solutions.

Motorola also said it would form a goint venture with Tokogiken, a company
controlled by Vertex President and Chief Executive Jun Hasegawa, which will
hold the other 20% of Vertex.

The deal price is 2,214 yen ($19.38) a share, reflecting a premium of 38% over
Vertex Standard's closing price on Friday and 41% over the three-month average
closing price.

Vertex Standard's board has approved the terms, Motorola said.

I am sad to report that O.D. Keaton, WA4GLS became
a silent key yesterday, Wednesday, 5 December 2007.
O.D. was 83 years old.

All,

A good friend of mine (Andrew Smith, WB4NVO) asked me to pass along the
news of his father's passing.  His father,
Dewey Smith, W4TPT passed away Friday evening.  Visitation will be
today, Dec. 16 from 4 - 8 at the Mt Olivet Funeral
Home in Nashville.  The service will be there on Monday morning at 10:00 Am.

If anyone has a contact with NARC or the Nashville RATS and could
forward this email, it would be appreciated.
