Subject: [-WC4AR-] The Fox was caught
Message-ID: <445D068E.3070407 at charter.net>
What a big time we had. And the weather could not have been better. The
hunters were few but the foxes were fewer. Tom -KB4SFN and I scoped out the
Cedars of Lebanon State Park on Friday and found several pretty good fox holes.
Then this morning while the hunters stuffed biscuits and coffee down their
necks, Tom and I dashed into the woods and hid the fox.
Carl -KG4QQJ & son Johnathan, Landon -KC5ACP & his dad Gary -KE5IZ, Rannye
-KG4VVD & Jerry -KA4MST and Clark -KI4KDF were released from their cages about
9:15 AM and immediately tore out after the fox. Landon's dad, visiting from
Henderson, TN for his granddaughter's birthday, pretty much walked to within 30
or so feet of the thing without wasting a step. He has a little experience at
RDF and participated in transmitter hunts on the island of Aruba back when they
lived there. Nevertheless, the sly old fox held out a little while after the
hounds got close but was finally caught about 10:00 AM by Jerry.
Unfortunately, Landon and Dad had to leave after the first hunt, but the rest
stayed so Tom hid it again. This time the hounds were hungrier and found it
within 15 or 20 minutes. Clark found it this time, but if he had not spotted it
when he did, I'm pretty sure Johnathan would have found it. He was right on top
of it. Nice hunting you two!
Anyway, we had a big time and I wish you all could have been there. Tom snapped
a few photographs of the hounds and they're posted on the PHOTOS page of the web
site www.wilsonarc.org
Thanks to Tom for doing all the leg work and thanks to Landon for breathing life
into a dead fox. Nice work guys!
Have a good weekend and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Audrianna Roeder!

Subject: [-WC4AR-] Hamvention Flea Market Vendor Tickets & Hotel Rooms
Available
Message-ID: <6.2.3.4.2.20060509100205.0336ff38 at m.mail.vanderbilt.edu>
Hi,
Hamvention is next week! Do you have tickets? Do you need hotel accommodations?
There is a group of hams in the Nashville area who have attended
Dayton Hamvention as a pack for many years. Several of those people
will not attend this year. Because of that, some of the others have
hotel rooms reserved and flea market vendor tickets in hand, excess
to our needs.
The hotel is:
Drury Inn Suites Dayton North
6616 Miller Lane
DAYTON, OH 45414
937-454-5200
We have two rooms available, each room has two queen size beds, is
non-smoking and the rate is $120 per night. These rooms will be
released to the hotel by Monday, 5-15-06.
There are also five flea market vendor tickets available. These
tickets differ from general admission in that they allow entry into
the flea market each day prior to the general public. These tickets
are $20 each.
If you want the rooms or tickets, contact me off list via K4IDC at
comcast dot net.
Thanks,

Message-ID: <20060509195113.45132.qmail at web52604.mail.yahoo.com>
I am still getting bits and pieces of what the course requirements are for ARES
members to be properly "credentialed" under new Homeland Security, FEMA, and
ARRL guidelines. For now, here is, what I believe, will be the minimum
requirements, along with the URL link for each course:
FEMA Independent Study Program:
IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command System:
http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is100.asp
IS-700: Introduction to National Incident Command System (NIMS)
http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is700.asp
IS-800: National Response Plan (NRP), An Introduction
http://training.fema.gov/EMIWebIS/is800.asp
Select either Option 1 or 2 at the bottom of each page to take the online
course.
While MS Windows is recommended, I was able to use Firefox with Kubuntu
Linux to take the course. Your mileage may vary. Either way, make sure
Javascript is enabled to run on your browser.
All FEMA courses are free and are self-paced.
ARRL:
EC-001: Level 1 Amateur Radio Emergency Communications
http://www.arrl.org/cce/courses.html#ec001
The correspondence course fee is $45 for ARRL members, or $75 for non-members.
Registration for the next course which runs 2 Jun - 28 Jul 2006 is now open
through 22 May 2006. The course is "self-paced," but must be completed before 28
Jul 2006.
I am working on starting a Level 1 class soon. I hope to have details soon.
Greg (K4K0), has added the URL links for these courses to the wilsonarc.org
website as well.
I expect to have the "complete" and "final" details regarding training
requirements from the ARRL TN SEC soon. These courses are expected to be on the
list. In the meantime, let me know if you have any other questions.

Subject: [-WC4AR-] ARES Meetings and More!
Good Evening All,
Well, first I wanted to apologize for the lack of communication from your
Emergency Coordinator for ARES. I have been in Texas the past two weeks on
various personal agendas.
Last night, I received word from Jimmy Floyd, the recently appointed Section
Emergency Coordinator for ARES regarding an upcoming meeting. If you went to
the Tullahoma Hamfest, many of you got to meet him. He's a down to earth
guy with a huge plan for Tennessee ARES.
He has called a statewide ARES meeting for June 3rd, 2006. The details of
the meeting are below in the forwarded message; however, I wanted to mention
that I have asked the Assistance Emergency Coordinators to fill my shoes.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the all day meeting. Prior
commitments on that day prevent me from attending. Though I'm not sure how
much notice has to be given to ensure I can attend something, in this
situation 3 weeks was not enough. Had it been the previous or following
weekend I would've been ok. That said I do invite all of you that can make
it to attend the meeting.
Also, as a nice little segway I do want to remind everyone of Wilson
County's next ARES meeting, which will be held Monday night May 22nd at 7:00
PM. I'm still working on trying to finalize the agenda and I will email you
this week when I have confirmation.
So, there are two ARES meetings coming up. In light of the statewide ARES
meeting in June (which I just now realized falls on the same night as the
WARC club meeting), we will not be having the county ARES meeting in June
which would've taken place June 19th.
The July ARES meeting will be on July 24th, 7:00 PM.
Also, as a closing remark, do not forget that June 24th-25th is Field Day!
I'm sure more will be said on Field Day as we approach June.
Last but not least, every Thursday night, 7:00 PM on 147.105 MHz we are
holding the Wilson County ARC Information and ARES Net. If you are
interested in being a Net Control, please contact Robin Midget, Wilson
County AEC/Net Manager.
Have a great Monday!

Calling all amateurs. Calling all amateurs.
The June 3 meeting of the Wilson Amateur Radio Club will be held at
K4KO. We will grill some burgers and hotdogs beginning at 5:00 PM
(NOTE: ONE HOUR EARLIER than usual), discuss Field Day plans and
strategy, talk about the people who don't show up at the meeting, then
maybe play a little radio if there is time.
Everyone, including family members, is invited (you don't have to be a
club member) so make plans to attend. However, I need to know how many
plan to attend so if you receive this email and are planning to attend
the cookout, reply with the number of mouths you will be bringing...
including your own. Email to k4ko at charter.net
Monitor 147.105 MHz Thursday evening at 7:00 for more details. Also,
check out the Wilson ARC website at www.wilsonarc.org for a map.
