From k4gf at arrl.net Mon Nov 3 17:00:07 2008 From: k4gf at arrl.net (Steve Illgen - K4GF) Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2008 17:00:07 -0600 Subject: [ WC ARES ] Wilson County ARES Notes - 3 Nov 2008 Message-ID: Election Day is tomorrow! Make sure you exercise your right to vote! It's been a month since the SET. I am extremely pleased with the way everyone who participated performed. I feel confident that we will be capable of responding and supporting our served agencies well in case of an emergency. The next ARES meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov 11, 2008 at the WEMA Training Center, 107 Oak Street, Lebanon, TN (across from WEMA EOC). Christopher Andrews from WEMA will give a presentation about WEMA's weather monitoring capabilities and tools that they use. We will also begin plans for implementing an inexpensive, yet, necessary digital communications structure to allow text-based communications. Your ideas are important! One more item that will be discussed. Members of the WEMA Rapid Response Team, Tom, and I recently had a meeting with WEMA officials (including John Jewell). WEMA is very interested in using us as an additional resource for funneling weather related information to them as well as to the NWS. They are also interested in enhancing their amateur communications abilities (including the addition of HF at the EOC). Because of this, we need at least two more operators to be added to the WEMA RRT. Finally, there is a need for additional MARS operators. As of now, I believe Greg, K4KO, and Michael, N4MAW, are the only two operators in the county. Let me know if you have any questions concerning these topics. 73, Steve Illgen - K4GF Emergency Coordinator Wilson County, TN ARES -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
